Directions and Connections.

DIRECTIONS TO THE UPCOUNTRY BED AND BREAKFAST FROM THE KAHALUI AIRPORT: As you leave the rental car area near the airport, go straight and cross the first intersection. Krispy Creme Donuts should be on your right, Costco and K-Mart on your left. The very next intersection is the Hana Highway. Turn left onto the Hana Highway and follow the road as it curves left toward Hana and Paia. The next intersection is the Haleakala Highway/Highway 37. Make a right-hand turn here and follow the highway up the side of the volcano. Keep an eye out for the mile markers along the side of the road. Go straight to mile marker 12. DO NOT TURN OFF THE HIGHWAY ONTO ANY OTHER SECTION OF HIGHWAY OR LOWER KULA ROAD. At mile marker 12 you will start to see the Kula Post Office, Kula Elementary School, Kula Park, and finally the Kula Fire Station, all on your-right hand side. Just past the fire station, at the intersection of the Kula Highway and Copp Road, you'll see what looks like seven used tires, painted green, stacked atop a telephone pole. Make a left turn here and come up the crooked little road to the stop sign. There will be a small gas station on your right, almost in the street. Make a right hand-turn here past the gas station and continue down the street about 200 yards to the Big Red House in Kula. We are on the left side of the road. You can't miss it.

CONNECTIONS: Here are some links to sights to see and places to visit while you're in Maui.

The Sherri Reeve Gallery

Sherri is one of Maui's finest artists. Her work is displayed in several of our rooms and on most of my T-shirts. Sherri's gallery in Makawao has her very collectable, original fine art on display and you can also see her work on T-shirts, tiles, earrings, notecards and many other things, I'm sure. Sherri is in the Gallery most weekdays and will personally sign your art, shirts, or any of the items she sells in the gallery. Not only is this woman extremely talented, she is also gorgeous (a strictly unsolicited personal opinion). It is definitely worth a trip to Makawao to meet her and see her art.

Access Aloha Travel

Judy Heller and her crew are the consummate travel agents. While Access Aloha Travel caters to the traveling handicapped, she also offers a range of services everyone can use and take advantage of.

The Maui Film Festival

The Maui Film Festival is a year-round event now. Every Wednesday evening at the Maui Arts and Cultural Center's Castle Theater, the festival presents new films for your enjoyment. These are the films that will most likely be on everyone's Top 10 list when Oscar time rolls around but aren't always available in your neighborhood theater. During the summer months, look for the festival's venues at the Wailea Golf Course or on Wailea Beach. Every winter at their First Light event, the festival presents all the films nominated for an Academy Award. Click on this link to see what will be showing while you're here.

Alii Kula Lavender

Experience the Royal Lavender of Kula. Enjoy Maui's first and only lavender walking tour. Located at the gates of Waipoli State Park, you'll savor the delicious lavender teas and scones while enjoying spectacular views of the valley. Alii Kula Lavender has 45 varieties of lavender and 75 other products and gifts.

Tedeschi Vineyards, Maui's Winery.

Located on the grounds of the Ulupalakua Ranch, this winery's tasting room is located in a 150-year-old cottage originally built for King David Kalakawa's visits. Rich in history and lush with ancient landscapes, the drive here is a pure delight and the wine a pleasant and delicious surprise.

Surfing Goat Dairy

Surfing Goat Dairy has produced over 20 award-winning cheeses, from fresh creamy chevre, to tart feta, to cheeses ripened in wax. Daily tours feature goat feedings, petting and even hand-milking (eewwwww, for the kids maybe), for an unforgettable goat experience. It's all the rage, I'm telling you. People are calling me about this place all the time. Yeah, I know. Go figure! This and the Lavender Farm are really pretty cool places, except for the goat milking thing.
